The Commonwealth Secretariat is seeking an exceptional Head of Media Relations to lead its media function and strengthen the global profile of the Commonwealth and its programmes. The successful candidate will cultivate strong relationships with media outlets worldwide—across print, broadcast, digital and emerging platforms—to enhance the organisation’s reputation, visibility, and relevance as a modern, impactful international institution.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Head of Media Relations will lead and inspire the media team, ensuring excellence, timeliness, and innovation across all outputs. The postholder will shape and deliver compelling narratives aligned with the Commonwealth’s strategic pillars, oversee hybrid and digital‑first press engagements for the Secretary‑General, and ensure spokespersons are equipped with high‑quality, consistent messaging. The role also includes deputising for the Director as required, managing crisis communications, and playing a key leadership role in media accreditation and operations for major events such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in international media relations, a strong understanding of the evolving global media landscape, and a proven ability to deliver integrated, content‑led campaigns in partnership with digital, marketing, and content teams. They will lead the transition from reactive coverage to proactive storytelling, driving the creation of high‑quality multimedia content and ensuring the Commonwealth’s brand identity is consistently reinforced across all channels. The role requires strategic judgement, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment with diplomacy and cultural sensitivity.
