The Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub (CCFAH) aims to improve and strengthen the climate resilience of small and other vulnerable Commonwealth countries through improving their access to climate finance. We are hiring the following position to add to our existing pool of experts.

 

  • Commonwealth Thematic Climate Finance Advisers (Gender)

 

As CCFAH is demand driven, the Commonwealth Secretariat recruits its Commonwealth National Climate Finance Advisers through a pool of experts which is continuously updated in response to the needs of member states. Once shortlisted, candidates are placed into the expert pool and, based on needs and skills match, are contacted for further assessment and evaluation for Commonwealth National Climate Finance Adviser roles in specific member states.

 

The central hub is hosted by the Government of Mauritius with Commonwealth National Climate Finance Advisers placed in countries across the Africa, Asia, Caribbean and Pacific regions. The CCFAH started operations in 2016 and as of March 2026, it had mobilised USD 566.16 million of climate finance for 180 projects across the Commonwealth member states.

 

As a Commonwealth National, Regional or Thematic Climate Finance Adviser, you will be working at the forefront of overcoming the identified barriers and enhancing the mobilisation of climate finance for sustainable development.

 

Commonwealth National, Regional or Thematic Climate Finance Adviser roles are tailored to specific thematic, regional and country requirements and will therefore differ from country to country, from region to region and thematic area (Gender and Health). Overall, Advisers are expected to be familiar with specific regional contexts, and have a good understanding of climate finance readiness, accreditation, proposal development and capacity building.

 

The Commonwealth National, Regional or Thematic Climate Finance Adviser roles will assume the following main responsibilities and activities: Project development; Capacity Building; Knowledge Management; Stakeholder Engagement, Communication, Coordination, Supervision (for Regional Advisers), Gender and Youth mainstreaming and other relevant duties.


To be considered, you will need to have a post-graduate qualification (Masters degree is essential) in any of the following: Climate Change, Environmental Studies/ Economics, Natural Resources Management; Energy; Project Management; Business Studies; or any other related subject. For thematic Advisers you will need to have a post-graduate qualification in the relevant thematic area of choice (Climate Health and Gender).

 

You will need at least 8 years of work experience in climate policy development and management of projects in the area of climate change, energy, forestry, biodiversity, agriculture, climate health and technical assistance initiatives. You will also need demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience in the climate finance space including climate finance readiness, grant proposal writing, climate change capacity building or technology transfer; demonstrated experience in resource mobilization, stakeholder relationship building and collaboration with government agencies, donors and/or international development partners, and non-government organisations; proven experience in developing knowledge products, including analytical pieces, papers, reports and related products; and developing country experience, particularly in Africa, Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Pacific regions.

 

Fluency in both written and spoken English is essential.
